There are many discriminating articles out there about kids and handheld devices. And I’m sure you’ve also read how it could also benefit young children if the right parameters are set by parents. I’m in the latter camp. I believe it is next to impossible to bar a child from using technology early on in today’s society. Barring it would not help a child develops healthy media habits. I’ve used it to distract Lauren from getting bored being strapped in her car seat, at a busy restaurant and when I need to get some house chores done. However, I do believe that having the right content like age appropriate apps and videos helps in shaping my child’s media consumption.

Lauren loves YouTube and I’ve noticed that she has learnt songs, rhymes and hand movements from these videos. Somehow she has also figured out how to subscribe to the ones she likes and watches them again and again.
