Kids Friendiness Review: Sandbank, Parkland Greens at East Coast Park + Giveaway

LIFESTYLE, SPONSORED POST | 47 comments

A couple of Sundays ago, I decided we should break our Sunday routine of hanging around our own hood and venture somewhere new for a change. Maybe it was also because I was housebound for the last few weekends due to dengue and as soon as I got my energy back, I want to do soooo much with the kids to make up for lost time!

The email invitation from Sandbank to try out their Weekend Breakfast Buffet couldn’t have come at a better timing. I immediately replied yes and forwarded the invite to dear Nick and wrote, “We are having breakfast here at 10am this Sunday!”.

Located at Parkland Green, East Coast Park, Sandbank is right opposite Marine Parade on ECP. Yup, it’s at that end. If you’re driving, watch out for carpark C and turn in as soon as you see it. Otherwise, it’s a looooong way to go until you find a safe area to chuck a u-ey.

Now, let’s get straight to business and check out the food. Shall we?

The breakfast buffet at SandBank has most of what you’d expect from a, well, breakfast buffet. But don’t expect anything fancy. Everything is pretty basic. They have the usual continental breakfast items like sausages, bacon, baked beans, potatoes, pancakes, as well as local fares like nasi lemak, roti prata and congee.

If you prefer something lighter, there’s also a salad and fruit bar, right next to the cereal canisters that Lauren absolutely love. Not so much for the actual cereal, she just loved the fact that she can turn a dial and the cereal comes falling out!

I’m glad to see Sandbank has an egg station. Expert says the best breakfast to have is protein. It helps jump-start your metabolism and fuel you for longer. Both fried egg and egg benedict I ordered was cooked to perfection!

The main dining area is quite big and located at the other side of the restaurant. The buffet area is separated from the dining area by a bar. Nick and I had to take turn getting food for the kids and ourselves, because someone has to watch the kids. I’m not complaining though, because all that walking back and forth helps burn some of the calories I shoved down my mouth, right?

Just photos of my 3 years old surrounded by food and loving it.

I went straight for the nasi lemak and I wasn’t disappointed. The rice was fragrant and the sambal has just the right kick. You can have it with fried chicken wings or fish or both, totally up to you. I guess that’s the beauty of buffet.

Nick thinks the roti prata and chicken curry was alright too. It must have been, because the man finished the entire plate in less than 5 minutes!

And here is Georgia quietly enjoying her bowl of cereal, crispy bacon and whatever we threw in there.

Nice view and sea breeze as we enjoyed our breakfast.

I knew Sandbank has a long 15m plunge pool right on their doorstep. It is divided by 2, a deeper one for older kids and adults, if you’re so inclined and another shallower one for younger kids like mine. While I had secretly wished my kids wouldn’t notice it, fat chance, I had brought along their swimwear for just in case.

Lauren asked to get in the pool as soon as she’s done filling her tummy. After a few no’s and pleading on her part, I changed her and off we went kicking water by the pool.

And soon after the younger one joined in too. I really didn’t want Georgia to get in the water because she has sensitive skin and often gets rashes when we swim. So here she is sitting on the edge dipping her little feet in the pool.

What’s not pictured though is a few minutes later, Georgia decided feet dipping is not her style and she wanted to go all in and almost pulled me into the water along with her.

By the time Nick was done with his breakfast and enjoyed his cup of morning coffee, I had a wet preschooler and a soaked-to-the-waist toddler, with no change of clothes for the toddler. Yay me!

There’s a public shower right next to the restaurant for all you well-prepared mums. But for lazy mums like me, we let the sun does its job and went for a walk on the beach after our breakfast. Don’t worry, we showered the kids as soon as we got home! AND… Georgia’s skin didn’t break out!

Kid’s friendliness rating: 4.5/5
With the plunge pool right at the front of the property, the restaurant clearly targets family with children. It’s a place to go for a chill-out breakfast on weekends while the kids have a splashing good time in the pool. If the pool isn’t your thing, the beach right in front of Sandbank isn’t a bad option too.
