MOTHERHOOD, PREGNANCY | 4 comments

Or should I name the post – 3rd time lucky?

Remember when I wrote that I’m not ruling out getting pregnant this year in my birthday post?

BANG. A week later, I missed my period and I checked. Although I was totally not pregnant.

How did I know? My cycle is very regular, like right on the day kind of regular. We also have a pregnancy calendar app that tracks my ovulation. How high tech are we?

Anyway, we totally abstained the entire week. So there’s no way I could be pregnant. But I checked anyway. For the benefit of doubt.

I went to Guardian and get a 2-in-1 pregnancy test (that’s basically 2 sticks in a box) because it’s cheaper to buy 2 instead of 1 at a time, and being a scrooge, I totally saw the value and bought that. I could keep the other stick for future ‘ops-we-could-be-pregnant’.

So I got home, in the toilet I went and peed on the stick.

(Just as a clarification, to those who don’t know, control line will appear no matter what. And test line is the one you should be looking for. Visible = positive, not visible = negative.)

The test line appeared straightaway, before the control line. Huh? The instruction said to wait 5 minutes. What does test line showing up immediately mean?

Well, I had another test stick. So I downed myself with water and within the next 15 minutes, it’s time for toilet again. This time, only the control line appeared.

2 results in a day! So am I pregnant or am I not?

Off to Google I went. I was panic snacking at this point and had totally forgotten to chew gently on the right side of my mouth.

Praaack! My recently root-canaled tooth and the temporary filling broke. FML.

Did I mention it was a Saturday and two days before Chinese New Year?

I had to wait at least 4 days (it was a loooong public holiday) to get my tooth fixed. Juuust great.

The tooth situation and with us having to fly to Kuala Lumpur for Chinese New Year took my mind off pregnancy, at least for a while. Besides I was totally not pregnant!

Fast forward a week later…

We came back to Singapore and I was down with dengue for 3 weeks.

So there I was, in the A&E department of Raffles Hospital, having 39˚C fever, with head splitting ache and bone breaking sores, I had no choice but to tell the doctor I suspected I was pregnant too. Could this all just be a bad case of morning sickness?

One draw of blood and 30 minutes later, both my dengue and pregnancy was confirmed at the same time. Our reactions was Oh and Oooouuuuuuuu…

It’s confirmed. I’m knocked up and I had dengue at the same time. Luckily for me, I was in my first trimester and it didn’t affect the fetus.

I’m well into my second trimester now and the fact that we will have another baby by October this year is taking its time to sink in.

Just the other day, I was asking Nick’s opinion on sleeping arrangement when baby #3 is here. Shall we move Lauren to the other room? Shall we have the newborn in our room or all three kids in the other one? Nick offered to move out… Hahaha, funny but you are not going anywhere, hun.

So yeah, 3 kids!! I can’t imagine how life is going to be but I say BRING IT ON!!!

You’ll be seeing a lot more posts on pregnancy and newborn on the blog. If that’s your thing, subscribe to my newsletter and don’t miss a post. Otherwise, please don’t be a stranger and hang around for other non-baby posts.

All this typing is making me hungry. I gotta go stuff my face with sour mango now. Ciao!
