Our Family’s stay at the Amari Watergate Hotel in Bangkok

TRAVEL

One of the perks of having a husband who goes on business trips is that sometimes our entire family gets to tag along!  We traveled to Bangkok in early November and spent three days and two nights at Amari Watergate Bangkok with our three children – Lauren, Georgia and Will.

We’d heard great things about the Amari Watergate and couldn’t wait to spend some time there ourselves. Spoiler alert: it didn’t disappoint.

After a major renovation in 2016, Amari Watergate Bangkok is now modern, inviting, spacious. We loved staying literally across the street from the Platinum Fashion Mall and extremely near the business district as well.

Check-in at the hotel is at the executive lounge which we loved! Our kids were able to get a snack and run around a bit without disturbing the other patrons and it allowed us to relax and enjoy ourselves.

The Rooms

We booked two rooms for our stay and one room was updated to a corner one-bedroom suite! There are only 22 of these suites in the hotel, and the staff tells me that these are a favourite.

The modern touches and attention to detail (hello fresh flowers!) made our rooms delightful for the whole family. The mini living room was the perfect hangout space for all of us and the desk in the suite allowed my husband to get some work done without having to sit in an uncomfortable chair or on the bed.

As you can see, the kids had plenty of space to run around in the suite without bothering the adults!

The bath tub with jacuzzi was enjoyed by all and a great way to refresh after a day out in the heat and humidity of Bangkok. Except that one time when my kids impatiently turned on the jacuzzi before the water was filled up. Water was spraying in all directions and by the time I salvaged the situation, everything was soaked and wet! Lesson learned.

Facilities

Swimming Pool

My kids’ favourite part of this hotel is the pool! As you can see, it’s an oasis on the 8th floor of the hotel with areas for kids, adults, and families. We spent a lot of time at the pool as it really was a great escape from the fast-paced city.

When the kids needed to get some serious energy out, this is where we came. For me personally, it felt like an escape from city life right in the middle of the city. The poolside bar doesn’t hurt either!

There were so many Instagrammable spots all around the hotel, taking pictures was too much fun!

My 6-year old took this photo of me, looks like we have a budding photographer on our hands!

Gym

The on-site gym was extremely impressive! This large workout facility wasn’t just a tiny room with some weights and a treadmill, this training facility had no shortage of equipment and included a squash court and yoga rooms.

Breeze Spa

Could I spend all my time at this spa alone? Yes, absolutely. The spa was aesthetically pleasing, smelled amazing and the kind and welcoming staff members make you feel relaxed right away.

From the drink you’re given when you arrive, the treatment itself, and the tea and biscuit you get before you depart, the whole experience is well thought-out and worth your time.

Dining at Amari

Amaya Food Gallery

I saved the best for last, the food gallery! This amazing on-site dinner buffet is full of international cuisine and the hotel includes a complimentary buffet breakfast daily. As you can see, the food gallery was as much a feast for the eyes as it was for our tummies.

We all tried something new at the food gallery and it’s safe to say everything was delicious. The chocolate fountain was especially popular with my kiddos.

We also had lunch here one day, there’s so much to talk about that I’m writing a separate blog post with a full review of this dining option.

Executive Lounge

The executive lounge is such a perk! We loved checking in here away from the business of the main lobby. The free afternoon tea and alcohol every day made this a great place for adults and children alike. Tea and snacks for the kiddos and an adult beverage for me? Yes, please!

Great Location

I wasn’t joking about the hotel being close to shopping! Here’s the view from my hotel room, you can see the Platinum Fashion Mall right across the street. Having the mall so close is really convenient for anyone, but with kids, it’s even better.

Besides Platinum Fashion Mall, Central World Plaza, Pratunam Market, Siam Paragon, Panthip Plaza and Siam Centre are all within walking distance.

The business district isn’t too far either, so when my husband was done working for the day, he quickly got back to the hotel for family fun!

Will we go back to the Amari Watergate Bangkok? I sure hope so. I know there’s no other place I’d like to stay if we visit Bangkok again and there’s so much more to explore and more time at the spa could be just what the doctor ordered.
