As a mom of three growing kids (aged 9, 11, and 13), I’m always on the lookout for holidays that tick all the boxes. Comfort for parents, entertainment for the kids, and something a little extra. So when we were invited for a Summer Escape Stay at Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, I knew we were in for a treat, but even then, it waaaay exceeded our expectations.

If you’re based in Singapore and craving a short, exciting getaway that doesn’t involve long-haul flights (just a quick drive across the causeway!), this is the one. Let me show you why.

The Studio Suite Gold Duplex – A Rockstar Family Haven

We stayed in the Studio Suite Gold – Duplex, and let me just say, this room alone is worth the trip! There are only six of these exclusive duplexes in the entire hotel, so we felt like true VIPs!

It’s beautifully designed with a spacious two-story layout with:

A cozy living area upstairs… A spacious bedroom downstairs for us parents… A separate themed bedroom with a double decker bed  that comfortably slept all three kids… And a private pool just for us!

There was plenty of space for the five of us, no one stepping on each other’s toes, and the kids loved having their own “chill zone” upstairs.

The bathroom? Huge. And yes, you can have music everywhere you go. Just scan one of the QR codes and you’ll have a massive playlist to choose from while you soak in the tub. Bliss.

The best part? The plush robes and slippers, plus access to the Hard Rock Sound of Your Stay® program, where you can have a real Fender guitar delivered to your room. My kids even tried strumming a few chords – such a cool touch.

A Rockstar Welcome

Upon arrival, we were immediately taken in by the Mandala Guitar and Mandala Wall at the lobby. Everything felt vibrant and alive with music—this is no ordinary hotel.

Every corner feels like a tribute to rock legends, with memorabilia everywhere, from signed guitars to iconic outfits. It was like a mini museum tour that even the kids found interesting!

And as guests at the Studio Suite Gold Duplex, we were ushered to the Rock Royalty Lounge for check-in – no queueing up needed like a commoner. Rockstar treatment right from the start.

What Can You Do At Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast

Here’s what our 3-day adventure looked like:

Day 1: Kids’ Club Fun & Live Music

Right after we oohed and aahed at our cool suite, we explored the hotel ground. First stop, Roxity Kids Club™ & Splash Zone. Lauren who is 13 this year is deemed too big for the kids club (no adults allowed!), but Georgia and Will happily stayed and be entertained by the child-minders and a host of activities planned at the kids club.

There’s a whole kids’ club setup here – musical instruments to bang on (sorry, “make music” with), a computer games room, arts and crafts, and basically everything that makes it a child-haven. If you’re a parent with younger kids, this is where you can happily “park” them for a couple of hours and enjoy some uninterrupted couple time. Win for the kids, win for you.

While the kids were entertained at the kids club, Lauren, Nick and I did a self-guided walk around the hotel to discover stories behind the memorabilia on display. From guitars once strummed by legends to stage outfits with wild backstories, it’s like wandering through a mini rock ’n’ roll museum.

Of course, coffee was calling Nick’s name, so we made a pit stop at Constant Grind, where he could sip his piccolo latte while the kids raided Roxtars Toys & Sweets™ for their sugar fix. Energy for everyone, just in different forms.

Dinner was at Sessions, with a menu with an impressive variety of local and Western dishes. From fragrant laksa to perfectly grilled steaks, everything we ordered was delicious, and the service was prompt and attentive, making the meal feel extra special.

We ended the night with a live band performance at the hotel. It was an unexpected hit with the little ones. They were dancing, clapping, and even trying their best air-guitar moves. Honestly, there’s just something about live music that makes the perfect finale to a family day out.

Day 2: Waterpark Adventures & Beach Time

We started the day later than usual, because the beds were so comfortable! We trodded over to Rock Royalty® Lounge Breakfast. Breakfast at the lounge is exclusive to guests staying at the suites only – so it’s quiet and we pretty much had the whole place and buffet spreads to ourselves. 

Besides the generous buffet spread, we also had the option to order freshly made breakfast dishes – think Eggs Benedict, fluffy pancakes with berries, a hearty steak sandwich, and more.

Once we were happily stuffed, we made our way (more like skipped!) to Adventure Waterpark Desaru Coast, literally right next door to Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast. Our Summer Escape Stay package came with waterpark tickets included, and here’s the best part: there’s a private entrance from the hotel straight into the park with unlimited entries all day. This meant whenever we wanted a bite to eat or needed something from our room, we could pop back without being “stuck” in the park.

We spent the whole day there – water slides, wave pools, lazy river… honestly, it’s one of the best family-friendly waterparks in Malaysia.

When rain hit around midday, we took it as our cue to head back to Sessions at the hotel for lunch. As soon as the rain cleared, we were back for round two at the waterpark.

And because my kids apparently run on endless energy, we capped the day with a quick 3-minute beach buggy ride to the beach. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised.

The beach here was clean (unlike the other side of Desaru we visited a few years back. Not recommending that one), and the gentle waves made it perfect for families with little ones.

Day 3: Poolside Vibes & Goodbye

Our final day was slow and easy. We soaked up the last bit of holiday magic with a morning by the pool, and yes, music underwater. The kids thought it was mind-blowing, and honestly, so did I.

While they played, Nick managed a quick workout at the Body Rock® Fitness Center, fully equipped and spotless, before heading back for one last buffet breakfast at Sessions.

The kids were already asking when we could come back. Always a good sign.

Before leaving, we made one last stop at the Rock Shop® because clearly, you can never have too many Hard Rock tees or cool memorabilia. There’s just something about wearing that logo — like taking a little piece of the trip home.
