How To Feel Gorgeous On A Girls Night Out

LIFESTYLE, SELF CARE | 2 comments

Girls night out or any occasions without having baby Lauren tagging along are rare. So when Nick agreed to take over babysitting for an evening, I make the most of it. So let’s chat about my dressing up routine when having a special mommies night out.

Time management

Before baby, I used to take 1 hour to get ready. Now I allow up to 2 hours so I won’t need to rush and still have enough time to attend to Lauren whenever she needs me. I would prepare her next meal, her bath and spend another 30 minutes to lay down with her until she falls asleep.

Outfit
All women have a ‘nothing to wear’ syndrome. Unfortunately for me, it isn’t just a syndrome, it is my reality. Everything in my wardrobe has been worn to death. Shopping at the mall isn’t as easy these days with an active screaming toddler who finds every opportunity to climb off her stroller.
So online shopping would be the next best option. I have less than a week to go, so I need to buy from a retailer that can ship fast! Zalora delivers in 1-3 working days, great! Here are some outfits I found on their exclusive River Island collection that would be perfect for a mommy’s dinner and drinks. Yes, for those of you who moaned the departure of their franchised store from our shore 2 years ago, you can now get your hands on this funky and affordable UK High Street label from Zalora.

A long shower and a good hair wash

I love to pamper my skin with this simple homemade DIY sugar scrub. Follow by face moisturiser and body lotion. I would use a lighter lotion though. Everyone knows how muggy Singapore can be. If you are going to wear a skirt, put on some baby oil on your legs too.

Makeup

I use Diorskin Nude Skin Glowing liquid foundation as a concealer. I dab and blend it on my dark eye circle and blemishes. It is light, yet covers everything beautifully. I then dust the rest of my face with Laura Mercier loose powder. I love MAC eyeshadow for my smoky eye. The colours look exactly the same on my eyelid as it is in the palette. I fill in my eyebrows with a darkest brown eyebrow pencil and line my eyes with a black eyeliner. A bit of mascara, a light blush, a hint of lip colour and I’m done.

Hair

I feel my best when my hair is done. Sometimes it falls nicely in place after a good wash but most of the time, my hair needs a good blowout. I do my hair last because by the time I am done attending to Lauren and applying make-up, my hair is almost dry and the dampness left in the hair is just right to be blown dry. If I have more time, I might also curl it with a hot tong iron. I don’t put any products in my hair as it weighs it down and becomes flat.

Accessories

I don’t wear a lot of jewellery or accessories. The only things on me are my engagement ring, wedding ring, a watch and maybe a pair of earrings.

Shoes

I have a few pairs of basic black, nude and silver strappy heels that compliment any outfit. I just love heels. For me, the higher the heels, the better. Go as high as you could still be comfortable. Your boobs and butt are instantly tilted up and give you a better silhouette. Oh, did I mention I could almost fool myself that I have a flat stomach when I step into a pair of heels?
