How To Set Up A Baby Nursery On A Budget

PREGNANCY | 2 comments

If a new member of the family is on the way and you are trying to set up a baby nursery, I believe this article is going to help you in some ways.

I gathered a few budget-friendly tips that will let you create your dream nursery a lot easier and without any stress about finances.

So, without any further ado – let’s all learn how to set up baby’s nursery on a budget and in style!

Get creative painting walls

Decorating and creating in general, needs a lot of creative thinking. Keep that in mind while setting up the nursery. For example, don’t paint all walls in the same color. Pick an accent colour and have a feature wall.

Another idea I love is to get special chalkboard paint and pick a wall for the kids to enjoy for years! It is great because whatever that’s drawn on is ever changing and your baby will be able to enjoy it when he/she gets old enough to doodle. Mind you, babies grow so fast, it won’t be very long until he/she is able to grab a chalk and start decorating the wall. This type of wall in baby’s room is a perfect place to express child’s creativity.

Hit thrift stores for cheap furniture

Thrift stores are possibly the best thing ever happened to all frugal families. You may find many great pieces that it would be a sin not to buy! So while setting a nursery, hit the local thrift stores for budget friendly furniture like baby cot, arm chairs and book shelves.

But that’s not all. Get some brightly coloured paint that works with the material of the furniture and paint it. Not only will your second hand furniture liven up it a lot, you will have a truly unique piece. The best part is, it is a lot cheaper than buying brand new.

Don’t forget the coupons

You do know that there are thousands of coupons you can use while shopping for groceries. But do you know there are coupons you can use to get designer made, brand new furniture and décor elements a lot cheaper?

Kohl’s promo codes has one of those that will help you out. And this is just one example of department store coupons you can use. There are many other brands, even the special ones for children products, which offer huge discounts using coupon codes. So, don’t forget to use coupons. You can get brand new stuff cheaper with a few coupons!

Ask family and friends

Another tip is to ask your family members and friends if they have some furniture or other essential nursery pieces they don’t use. If they do – offer to buy it from them for a symbolic price. You’d be surprise to find many people would be more than happy to give it to you for free. Because you are helping them clear space and make way for a bigger furnitures for their growing children.

Skip the unessential

And finally, don’t lose your head when shopping and setting up the baby nursery. Know what you truly need and what items can be skipped.

For example, reconsider buying things like a glider chair. It can get shockingly expensive. What about moving one of the armchairs you have in the living room and use that for now.

You may not even sit there for breastfeeding and may prefer to do it on your bed instead. So wait until the baby is born and see if you are truly in need of one.

Also, many people think a changing table is a must-have. Let me tell you. I don’t have one and I make do with a changing pad. It has served us well after 3 years and 2 kids. I can change my children everywhere – on the floor, on the sofa and even on my bed and lined it using the changing pad. So really, try to think about what you truly need and purchase only the necessity for the nursery.

That’s it from me. Do you have any money saving tips for fitting out a baby nursery? Do share in the comment box below!
