[GIVEAWAY] Family Bonding Fun at Let ’em Play

KIDS | 16 comments

When I first read about Let ’em Play, I knew it was going to be a place my niece and nephew would love. How about my own children? Well, they’re a little chicken and they are probably a little too young for the Singapore’s first indoor obstacle course, two-storey high climbing walls and augmented reality climbing, or so I thought.

Anyway, Mithraa and Rohan came to visit and guess where I took them?

All geared up. Looking the part but was anyone looking at where the safety instructor was pointing?

There are a total of 5 different types of climbing walls, each with varying difficulty. And Rohan couldn’t wait to get started and gave the first alphabet wall a mount.

Okay, I have to eat my own words because although Lauren has been to My Little Climbing Room before and did splendidly, I didn’t think she would be brave enough to climb up that high. But she did! I’m so proud of her!

All was dandy until the belayer (a staff who pulls and releases the belay rope, to ensure the safety of climber) joked that we were leaving and going to leave her up there. Big cries ensued. Whoops!

Jokes aside, there are plenty of staff around to help and offer encouragement and advice.

This is the same transparent wall where Lauren climbed. Two climbers can compete against each other and able to climb concurrently on each side of the wall.

When you (I mean, the kids) are tired of climbing walls, there’s also a 2-storeys high elements obstacle course to conquer.

Mithraa and Rohan had no problem treading and balancing on the different suspension ropes, bridges and logs. They completed it so quickly, I didn’t even manage to get many photos.

So I thought I’d have a go. Can’t be too hard, right?

This is the first level, about 1.5m off the ground, easy-peasy…

.. until I got to the higher level. I solemnly swear I would not make my kids go unless they want to. It’s pretty scary up there! To be honest, I’d be worried sick if Lauren and Georgia are game to try, although the course is suitable for both adults and children as young as 3 or 4 years old (accompanied by parents). Children above 6 years of age can go on their own.

To be fair, it’s completely safe for anyone to traverse on the obstacle course. It has a continuous belay system which takes participants through the entire course on both levels, without having to hook and unhook the safety harness at any time.

Thankfully, I have nothing to fear. Lauren and Georgia happily played in the Tree House and Water Drop Net, right below the obstacle course.

Always up for photo moment, this one.

I discovered Georgia has a fear of heights. She couldn’t stand on her own going up the stairs. Poor thing.

So she made herself useful by helping to belay her sister climbing up that giraffe wall.

Another highlight at Let Em Play is this Augmented Reality Climbing Wall. It features a variety of games projected on the wall and requires participants to climb the wall to play the games. It can be customised according to various skill levels.

However, if you’re tired of all that wall climbing, you can set the skill level low and simply play a game of wall ping pong with your feet firmly planted on the ground. There are no fast and hard rules here except for a bit of family bonding fun time.

Let ’em Play also has a Robotics Lab which offers robotics programming classes to give kids a hands-on fun using various robots that they have brought in from around the world.

In the short 20 minutes we were there, the instructor managed to get Lauren to programme the robot to play a song and simultaneously keeping Rohan, Mithraa and Georgia occupied with the other programming robots. Thanks so much for your patience, Anh!

Before I forget, for every wall/obstacles you conquer, you get to keep a ticket to exchange for a gift at the end of your play session. The kids were over the moon with their rewards!
