A one-stop solution for my home and domestic helper insurance needs

BLOG, HOME, INVESTMENT, SPONSORED POST

My home is a special place for me. Especially since the pandemic started, I spend most of my time at home – working from home and staying home with my family. So, with our recent move to a new place, we invested quite a lot into making our new home comfortable.

The next step was to ensure that our home was fully protected. To do so, I started looking for a home insurance plan.

Naturally, the first place I looked at was FWD Insurance as I’ve been buying my helper’s insurance from them for years! I like the convenience of being able to do everything online. From obtaining all the information I need, to getting a quote and purchasing my policy online, it only takes a few minutes!

That said, here are the reasons why I decided to insure my domestic helper and my home with FWD:

Hassle-free insurance coverage for my domestic helper

FWD Maid insurance covers my domestic helper for any pre-existing medical conditions. In fact, they are also the first insurer to provide medical coverage for our maid’s pre-existing medical conditions at no additional cost!

Because really, if you’re hiring a new helper, how on earth are you going to know what her pre-existing conditions are? Your helper may not even be aware of them herself. Plus, not every medical condition shows symptoms early on. So, it’s important for me to know that pre-existing medical conditions are covered.

Also, FWD Maid insurance offers complimentary COVID-19 medical coverage of up to S$25,000 for hospitalisation expenses incurred if our helper is diagnosed with COVID-19 during the period of insurance. This goes beyond the Ministry of Manpower’s (MOM) required coverage of at least S$10,000 within 14 days of arrival in Singapore, which gives me the assurance that my helper is well-protected financially against COVID-19 especially with the pandemic still ongoing.

I’m not sure about you, but I’ve heard lots of stories where my friends had to change their helper within a few weeks. By then, they had already done all the necessary steps which includes purchasing their maid’s insurance policy.

In most of these cases, they were unable to get a refund for the cancelled policy and had to bear the costs themselves. That’s money down the drain.

With FWD, they understand that employers like us may need to replace our helper for whatever reasons. That’s why they offer a 100% refund if you need to cancel your policy within the first 3 months, just in case you change your mind or in the event that your helper doesn’t work for your family anymore.

But of course, this only applies if you have not made any claim in the first 3 months.

Oh, and you know the security bond mandated by the MOM?  FWD is the only insurer to pay directly to MOM for my helper’s security bond, up to S$5,000, without any extra cost.

See how it really is hassle-free?

Comprehensive home coverage that includes my home contents and more

Did you know that most fire insurance policies for properties – whether you live in a HDB or private apartment – may not cover your home contents? This means that in the event of a fire, not only will your precious furniture, belongings and renovations be damaged, you will need to fork out money to buy new ones because they’re not covered. Can you imagine that?

That’s the reason I decided to go with FWD Home insurance because it covers my home contents too. Many personal belongings and furnishings in our home have been accumulated over the years and it would cost a bomb to replace everything at once.

For example, I can only imagine how devastated my children would be if they lost some of their most precious toys and comfort items. In a similar way, it would be heartbreaking enough for us to witness the damage of our home contents or to lose our personal belongings in a fire, and I cannot imagine not being able to replace everything or cover the costs because of financial  reasons.

Also, you can rest assured that there’ll be zero excess should you have to make a claim due to a burst pipe or fire. I’m living in a rather old development, so having this benefit in my policy is important.

Not only that, FWD Home insurance covers four assistance services (such as electrical, plumbing, locksmithing and air-conditioning) of S$100 each in a policy year, which could come in useful if you need emergency repairs.

If your home is damaged due to an insured event (do read through the policy wording for the insured events covered!), FWD will pay for any expenses – such as laundry, home cleaning and fire extinguishing expenses – arising directly from the loss of use of your home. And if you need to stay at a hotel for a day or two while your home’s burst pipe is getting fixed, no worries – FWD will pay for that too!*

My home is precious to me. So, getting a comprehensive home insurance that covers my home contents and more is a no-brainer.

Why am I sharing this?

As a parent, it’s natural for us to want to do everything in our power to keep our family and children protected, and that includes building a safe and secure home for them. With FWD Home and Maid insurance, I feel supported in protecting my family, especially in areas which are beyond my control.

After all, these insurance plans are something we need to get anyway, so why not enjoy greater savings by getting them now!
